While at Preston West Primary I was given the opportunity to participate in organising and attending a school camp. I learnt so much from this experience as I was able to see first hand the amount of work that is needed when organising a camp. I attended numerous meetings, which explained to process of how the camp would be run and the different needs of students teachers would need to consider when organising camps. This gave me an opportunity to build relationships with fellow staff and with students who I did not have contact with in the classroom environment.
It was a 3-day camp to Mt Evelyn for Grade 3\4 students where students would participate in many different activities such as the Giant Swing, Initiatives course, Flying Fox, Low Ropes course, Archery and even have the opportunity to encounter wildlife. Students would have a timetable for all the activities and will have the opportunity to complete all the activities.
Personally this camp was an amazing experience. I was able to engage with all the teachers on a personal level as I was able to see them outside the school grounds and they were able to see me in a non-professional manner. These relationships have benefitted me throughout my degree as I still keep in contact with many of the teachers and maintain a positive relationship with the school. I was able to gain many new ideas and techniques, which have assisted me and develop as a teacher throughout my placement experience.
I was also able to connect and develop positive relationships with students. Being placed in a Grade Prep class it was great to experience the different student personalities and behaviours. I already had a good relationship my class and being able to develop new relationships with other students at the school was a great experience.
